Meet The Hobbyists

Alyssa Burton
Founder & Master Hobbyists
I never have a favorite hobby, rather a “hobby of the moment” as I love nothing more than diving head first into a new project and figuring it out as I go! While that often leads to a sleepless night or two as well as a huge mess (foam shavings and glitter being the worst I’ve ever… attempted to clean) I wouldn’t have it any other way! I met Jordan in college, where we both studied Theatre. Our post-grad adventures led us to Long Island where we trauma-bonded while working for a playhouse doing costumes for Main Stage productions as well as their annual Haunted House during which I continued to pursue makeup and bodypainting. Years later, having left theater & film behind in pursuit of something more stable, I find myself so close to finishing my MBA and living that corporate girlie life but still needing to itch that creative spirit! I have once again found myself cycling through my hobbies, utilizing crochet, painting, polymer clay earrings, candles, cooking, bread-making and general baking as a means of relieving stress and staying creatively active!
And I have to be honest… I’m still a mess but I have found such joy in the chaos and so much peace in my hobbies and that is exactly what I aim to share with this blog. It isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being perfectly you! I look forward to our combined chaos!

Jordan Saylor
Master Hobbyists
Jordan’s love of hobbies began as a kid. While most others were outside playing, Jordan preferred to stay inside surrounded by a chaotic mess of crayons, Play-Doh, beads, and paint. As an adult, pursuing a creative career path was an absolute must for Jordan, and after earning a dual BFA in both Acting and Costume Technology, she began work as the Wardrobe Supervisor for The Gateway Playhouse on Long Island, NY. As her career grew, she branched out into the booming film industry in Atlanta as well as a short period of time in retail as a Visual Merchandiser. After letting the creative winds guide her career direction, Jordan has settled into the world of construction and home renovation as a showroom Lighting Buyer. Through her various working experiences and desire to constantly be creating, Jordan has developed skills working with a wide variety of materials and has learned the value in trusting the process as well as learning to stay flexible when the creative winds blow in unexpected directions.
